A Variety of Museums Await in Lexington

It’s little surprise a town built on barbecue has a museum-quality exhibit of its first-known brick barbecue pits right in the middle of City Hall. The pits were actually discovered inside City Hall during a renovation. For years, the pits served the lunch crowd at the courthouse across the street, which is now the Davidson County Historical Museum. North Carolina’s most famous living artist, Bob Timberlake, incorporates a fascinating collection of artifacts and memorabilia into his Timberlake Gallery & Museum. NASCAR team owner Richard Childress showcases the sport’s history at Richard Childress Racing Museum; some of the most popular displays include championship cars driven by Dale Earnhardt Sr.
