Welcome to Lexington, NC
Many states have towns named “Lexington”, but only one claims to be the “Barbecue Capital of the World”. More than 15 restaurants serve up pork shoulder barbecue with more than half the pork still being cooked over hot wood coals. The town is so proud of its barbecue heritage that each year a huge celebration takes place in October, drawing more than 100,000 visitors and locals to the Main Street of Uptown.
You never know who you may meet as you sit down for that barbecue meal – movie stars, former presidents, major sports figures, NASCAR legends, and government leaders – so keep your camera handy. Be sure to save enough room for a banana split, peach cobbler or good old-fashioned banana pudding!
So come enjoy world famous barbecue, wines from Childress Vineyards along the Southern Gateway Wine Trail, Art of Bob Timberlake & Dempsey Essick, Richard Childress Racing Museum and Shop Tours, High Rock Lake and Historic Uptown Lexington.
